Rodney Earl Cain, 71, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2024, in Hattiesburg, MS. Born on February 5, 1953, in Arkansas to the late JD and Maxine Cain. Growing up in Liberty, MS, Rodney developed a passion for the great outdoors early in life. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, bringing home deer and turkey, and fishing in both fresh and saltwater. His love for the thrill of the chase was matched only by his love for the thrill of the race. Rodney was a dedicated dirt track race car driver for decades, his car proudly bearing the number 50 as he competed at Pike County in Mississippi and Hickory racetrack in Louisiana. For over 50 years, he served as the volunteer fire chief at Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department, where he led with courage and a deep sense of responsibility. He was also a devoted member of Mitchell Chapel Church of God in Poplarville, MS. Rodney was a master carpenter, his skill and dedication to his craft led him to establish Cain's Cabinet Shop alongside his wife. Together, they ran the business for 35 years. His most prized role was being "Pawpaw.” He enjoyed watching his grandbabies play ball or spend a beautiful day out casting lines with them. Rodney's love story with his wife, Linda, started a little differently than others. Being introduced by Linda’s brother, you can say it wasn’t love at first sight, but their friendship blossomed into a love that was unbreakable. Just shy of 51 years, they are the epitome of a strong marriage. He will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Rodney is preceded by his daughter, Brittney Cain; parents, JD and Maxine Cain; brother, Lawrence Cain; and sister-in-law, Janet Carney Cain.
