Mr. Robert James Bellanger, 77 of the Janice community, passed away Wednesday evening at his home surrounded by his family. Robert was born in Point Aux Chenes, LA on April 12, 1941, the third of six children to Claude Sr. & Josephine Boquet Bellanger. He grew up in the area, and come to love hunting and fishing where he spent as much time as possible. Robert left school at an early age to work in the cane fields and help his family. Later, he went to work offshore for Booker Drilling, where he remained until retirement some 32 years later. He purchased property in the Janice community that was large enough to place several deer stands on, and when season was open, he was nowhere to be found. And when it was closed, he had a hook in the water somewhere. He is remembered as a loving, hard-working, and devoted husband that provided for his family. A gentle, sweet, and loving father, Robert took his children to sporting events, fishing, crawfishing, and spent many nights casting a net for shrimp. He loved high school football, and was an avid Saints and Braves fan as well. He and Della were members at New Covenant Assembly of God, where he worshipped and enjoyed the doughnuts, even winning the chili cook-off one year. He will be fondly remembered, and sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Robert was preceded by his parents Calude Sr. & Josephine, and a brother, Claude "C.J." Bellanger, Jr. Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Della; children James (Patricia) Bellanger of Luling, Jessica (Tim) Vegas of Galliano, Troy Bellanger (Michele Wilkerson) of Diamondhead, and Zora (Rodney) Chaisson of Janice; sisters Mary (Percy) Collins of Bayou Petit Caillou, Gertie (Carroll) Chauvin and Jennie Bellanger, both of Chauvin, and a brother, Michael of Sulphur, LA. He had nine grandchildren, eleven great-grands, and several nieces, nephews, and extended family. The family will receive friends for visitation Saturday morning, May 5th at 11:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 1:00 PM, at New Covenant Assembly of God in Wiggins. Interment will follow at the Janice Community Cemetery. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to assist Ms. Della and the family, and asks that you please keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
