Richard Durwin Bounds

August 12, 1948 — December 17, 2020

Biloxi, MS

Richard Durwin Bounds, 72 of Biloxi and formerly of the Sones Chapel community in Pearl River county, passed away Thursday morning, Dec. 17th in Gulfport. Born August 12, 1948 in Picayune, he was the son and only child to the late Monroe J. and Annie Lou (Smith) Bounds. Richard grew up on the family farm in the Sones Chapel community of Pearl River county, working around the farm from about the time he could walk. The farm was his life as a young man and that stuck with him. After graduating high school, Richard had some technical training before marrying and making his home there in Sones Chapel as well, doing what he knew best...farming. Though he started out relatively small, he grew his farming efforts to over 7,500 acres, raising soy beans, wheat and some cattle. Richard was happiest right there on the farm with his beans and cattle. He wasn't one to venture too far, nor for very long. Over they years, he did have other business ventures though, as he was not the kind to sit still. In his life, he has owned his own trucking company, a nursery, a debris clean-up crew and even had a lawn care business that he ran himself. The man stayed busy his entire life, until he was no longer able to physically. He is remembered as a gentle, kind-hearted man with the sweetest spirit about him. Not your typical country farmer, Richard loved animals and never could even take a deer that was eating up the crops he was growing. He kept to himself for the most part, focusing on his home, family and two daughters that he dearly loved. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all whose life he touched. Richard was preceded by his parents, Monroe & Annie Lou Bounds, and by his uncle and father-figure in life, Marcus Smith. Left to cherish his memories are: his two daughters, Paula (Jason) Lee of Diamondhead and Shanna (Steven) Slade of Maurepas, LA. Richard leaves a legacy of three grandchildren: Blaine (Amy) Lee of Covington, LA, Austin (Kayla) Lee of Diamondhead and Alex Slade of Maurepas, with three great-grands, Brently, Phoenix and Adeline. Due to the covid situation, the family will hold a private memorial at a later date. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Bounds family in their time of need and asks everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
