Rebecca Sue Magee, 69 of the Crossroads community in Pearl River County, passed away early Monday morning at the Sunplex Subacute Center. She was born July 24, 1951 in Bogalusa, LA, the middle of three children to Diaz and Rosemary (Anglin) McElveen. Nicknamed "Red" early on, she loved the river and her grandfather's camp, spending lots of time there through the years. Rebecca graduated from Bogalusa High School with the Class of 1969, was married and made her home in Bogalusa. When she remarried some years later, her and "Rat" made their home in Bush, LA. Red worked as hard as any man in her life, as a tech for Myers Pest Control many years, and then for the Daily News for several years after. She is remembered as a simply great mother and grandmother. Red saw the best in everyone, which caused everyone to adore her as well. She attended Superior Avenue Baptist Church in Bogalusa and was widely known as a simply fantastic cook. Red had a lifelong affinity for armadillos, collecting figurines and stuffed ones, even going so far as getting an armadillo tattoo. She will no doubt be fondly remembered by everyone whose life she touched. She was preceded by her parents, Diaz and Rosemary McElveen. Left to cherish her memories and inherit the armadillos are her children: her daughter Tobi Allen of Kiln, and sons David Allen of Bogalusa and Chad (Jennifer) Magee of the Crossroads community; her sister Marilyn (Frank) Larmon of Amite, LA and her brother, Brad (Brenda) McElveen of Hawesville, KY. Red leaves a legacy of five grandchildren and untold numbers of friends and neighbors through the years. Her final wishes were to be cremated, which her family is honoring, with a celebration of life gathering to be held later. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Magee family and asks everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers over this trying time.
