Mr. Raymond Warden

July 5, 1937 — April 2, 2018

Mr. Raymond Warden, 80 of McHenry, joined his dear wife Annie Merle, and his beloved son Jeffery in heaven with Jesus Monday evening, at his home surrounded by his family. Ray was born July 5, 1937, the baby of 6 children to Iven & Virgie Mae Warden. He grew up in the Midway community of Lamar county, enjoying the country life. He loved to hunt, fish, and play sports, and attended Midway and Sumrall schools. Ray started working at an early age, with one of his first jobs being at the Beverly Drive-In, to which he walked a lot of the time. At 15, he met the love of his life, Annie Merle Hatten, at a school basketball game in 1952, and the rest as they say, is history. They were married July 7, 1953, and spent 53 years together raising their family. Ray went to work for Chattanooga Glass Company in Gulfport at 16, and remained there until the plant closed in 1990, eventually retiring from the same company in 1993, for a total of 40 years on the job. Early on, the family lived in Lyman, but relocated to McHenry in 1981. He is remembered as a hard working, very dedicated man that always saw things through. He loved working with his hands, was an accomplished carpenter and craftsman, and was a literal jack of all trades he set his heart on. Ray was a born-again Christian, and a member of Saucier Baptist Church where he served as deacon for many years. A loving husband and father, Ray will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Merle, and his son, Jeffery; sisters Sis Clinton, Lola Mae Norton, Dink Clinton, and one brother, Bud Warden. Left to cherish his memories are his children, daughters Beverly (Billy) McNew and Lisa (Jeff) Scruggs, and sons Mark (Bertha) Warden and Tim (Laronda) Warden, all of McHenry; one sister, Geraldine Nobles of Midway, fourteen grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and numerous extended family, neighbors, and friends. The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, April 5th, beginning at 9:00 AM in the sanctuary of Saucier Baptist Church, followed by the funeral service at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow in Saucier Community Cemetery. The family would like to thank Mississippi Home Care and Southern Hearts Hospice for providing compassionate care over the past several months to not only Pawpaw, but all of us. Trinity is honored to serve the Warden family in their time of need, and asks that you keep them lifted up in prayer.
