Rachel Varie Yawn, 86, of the Midway community passed away on March 31, 2025, in Hattiesburg, MS. Rachel was born on April 3, 1938, in Hattiesburg, to her parents Floyd and Louella (Johnson) Madden. She led a life marked by love, dedication to her family, and an unshakable faith. Rachel had a deep affection for her poodles, her beloved ‘Heinz 57’ pup, and her cockatiel, Precious. Rachel was a true nature lover! She loved the outdoors, spending countless hours tending to her garden, growing food for her family, admiring her roses, and any frog she could spot. Rachel enjoyed cooking all the soul food your heart desired, but her turnips and sweet potatoes were everyone’s favorite, just beware of the wrath of her spoon! However, should you invite her to dine out, Rachel would be happiest with a bowl of gnocchi soup at Olive Garden or sharing catfish and coleslaw at Cuevas' Fish House. Rachel's zest for life was as infectious as it was inspiring. She was always ready for a new adventure, her enthusiasm catching you off guard. A committed worker, Rachel balanced multiple jobs tirelessly to support her family without ever uttering a word of complaint. Her grandchildren, affectionately calling her "Gran-Gran" or "Granny," were the apples of her eye. A devout believer, Rachel's love for the Lord and her church was the cornerstone of her existence. Rachel's gracious personality made her many friends; she had the rare gift of making every acquaintance feel like a lifelong friend. She embodied a life that was rich with purpose and brimming with joy—a life that provided light to others even now in her absence. Rachel's beautiful legacy will remain in the hearts of many, a lasting tribute to a life well-lived. Rachel will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Rachel is preceded in death by her loving husband, Edgar Reed Bennett, Sr.; her parents, Floyd Jessie and Mattie Louella (Johnson) Madden; siblings, Helen Marie Bounds, Jessie Leon Madden, Richard Lavell Madden, Joel Kenneth Madden, Aubrey Lavon “Preacher” Madden, William Liston “Pooch” Madden, Arthur Eugene Madden, Lloyd Dewey Madden, Sallie Gale Klauk, Michael Neal Madden; and son-in-law, Gary Moree. Left to cherish her memories are her children, Thomas Michael (Mary) Bennett, Teresa Ann (Dwain) Cooper, Edgar Reed “Eddie” (Tammy) Bennett, Jr., Susan Lynn Moree, and Angela “Angie” Varie Yawn; a legacy of multiple grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends, and loved ones. Services for Rachel will be held at Pine Hill Baptist Church beginning with a visitation service on Friday, April 4, 2025, at 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM. A Saturday morning visitation will be from 9:30 AM until 10:00 AM with Funeral Services beginning at 10:00 AM followed by Interment at Grantham Cemetery.
