Ola Mae (Peterson) Ory

October 4, 1938 — December 14, 2020

Kiln, MS

Ola Mae Ory, 82 of the Dedeaux community, took her heavenly flight Monday in Gulfport. She was born October 4, 1938 at the family home in Dedeaux, the youngest of two daughters to Aaron and Bertha (Cuevas) Peterson. Ola Mae grew up there in Dedeaux where she came to love gardening, both vegetables and flowers as well. She was an outgoing, athletic young lady that loved to swim in the creek on those hot summer days. She played basketball while in school, earning her letterman jacket which she was very proud of and held on to over the years. Ola Mae met her beau, Gaston L. Ory and fell head-over-heels in love with him. They were married Dec. 10, 1955, just two months after her 17th birthday, remaining together for 64 years. The newlywed couple made their home in Montgomery, AL early on, while Gaston worked for the USDA. As soon as possible, they returned home to Dedeaux, spending the rest of their lives together there as fixtures of the community. Ola Mae remained an outgoing and active lady in her life. She was a loving, caring woman who loved her family, as well as her community. Hers was the home everyone took their kids at Halloween, because she insisted on having all the "good candy" for the trick-or-treaters. At Christmas, she made double certain that everyone got something, assuring that nobody was left out. In her spare time, she loved to go crabbing...well...she enjoyed pulling up the net while someone else battled the crab to get it out. Ola Mae also fancied eating. She literally "loved that chicken from Popeye's", and about the only thing that came close to that in her book, was a good bowl of gumbo. She also loved her "retail therapy" and seldom allowed anything to interfere with it, until the casinos came along anyway. She so loved to go play, spending all night there on more than one occasion. And you couldn't really argue with her about it, because she managed to come out ahead far more often than not. She knew what she was doing and had lots of fun while doing it. A sweeter, more loving wife, mother and grandmother is hard to find. Ola Mae was all that and more, not only to her family, but to the community she called home. She will be forever missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Aaron & Bertha Peterson, her only sister, Catherine Faye, and her loving, devoted husband of 64 years, Gaston Ory. Left to cherish her memories are: her son, Chris (Marcia) Ory, also of the Dedeaux community. Ola Mae leaves a legacy of four grandchildren: Brittany (Kyle) Sick of Diamondhead, Alicia Ory of Dedeaux, Kelsey (Jason) Courtney of Petal and Laci (Chris) Davis of Wiggins, with sixteen great-grands: Gracie, McKinsley, Kemper, Joby, Branton, Kolt, Adalyn, Blaize, Alexis, Kaden, Eliana, Kollin, Kyler, Faith, Kinzlee and Kiplyn. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM Monday, Dec. 21st at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dedeaux, followed by the funeral mass at 1:00 PM. Afterward, Ola Mae will be laid to rest in the Standard - Sand Hill Cemetery.
