Normon Lavern Tynes

NORMON LAVERN TYNES, 81, of Poplarville, Mississippi (Whitesand Community), born on September 29, 1944, and awoke to the sunrise in Heaven on Saturday, January 17, 2026. A member of the Mitchell Chapel Church of God (Crossroads), and prior member of Murray Hill Church of God (Ford’s Creek), Normon graduated from Poplarville High School and Pearl River Community College. He then continued his education by studying engineering at Mississippi State University in Starkville, where he married his wife of 61 years, Carolyn Graham Tynes. Normon worked and provided for his family at Crosby Chemical and then Crown Zellerbach, now known as International Paper, in Bogalusa, LA, for 32 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and rodeos in his younger years. After retirement, travel, primarily to Cleveland, TN and the Great Smoky Mountains, was something that he thoroughly enjoyed. Normon co-pastored I Am Blessed Ministries in Poplarville for 7 years. Normon was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Edgar Tynes and Zella Holden Tynes, and his siblings Preston Tynes, Norma Tynes Sones, Clifton Tynes, Gloria Tynes Thompson, Vincent Tynes and Fern Tynes Wesley; his son Mitchell Lavern Tynes; grandson Phillip Chad Lindsey; nieces Rose Mary Tynes Mooney and Linda Thompson Slade, and nephew Robert Carl Thompson. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carolyn Graham Tynes; daughter Melissa (Phil) Lindsey of Poplarville; son Michael (Tammy) Tynes of Albany, LA; and son Al (Tonya) Tynes of Poplarville; eight grandchildren: Daniel, Kyle, Landon, Dylan, Kelton, Lauren, Luke and Chris; twelve great-grandchildren, Chad, Josh, Callie, Liam, Laiken, Lily, Kastyn, Waylon, Stettson, Jett, Preston and Elliot; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will be Friday, January 23, 2026, from 6 to 9pm at Mitchell Chapel Church of God, 98 Mitchell Chapel Rd, Poplarville, MS (Crossroads). Celebration of Life will be Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 10 am, beginning with a time of visitation. Interment will follow at the Murray Hill Church of God cemetery.
