Mr. Norman Joseph Flowers

July 2, 1934 — June 7, 2016

Mr. Norman J. "Buddy" Flowers, 81 of Perkinston, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, June 7, 2016. Buddy was born July 2, 1934, to Joseph and Ruth Flowers in Pittsburgh, PA. Even before graduating high school, Mr. Flowers joined the US Navy Seabees, where he served honorably for 24 years, including 2 tours in Vietnam, retiring as a Petty Officer 1st Class. After the military, he spent a short time as a welder, and then went to work for the city of Long Beach, where he served as supervisor of the maintenance shop, and would eventually retire again. He attended Saucier United Methodist Church. Buddy will be remembered as a hard working family man, a loving and devoted husband and father who showed kindness to everyone. He had a gentle, giving spirit about him, and loved impromptu cookouts with friends and neighbors. Mr. Flowers enjoyed his kids and grandkids so much, and loved fishing, flea markets, garage sales, and animals. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Norma Marquetta "Keta" Flowers, 5 children: 3 daughters Chris Athey (Leon) of Grand Bay, AL, Norma Howell (Doc) of Ocean Springs, MS, and Cari Flowers of Wiggins; 2 sons: Jeff Flowers of Long Beach, MS, and Gary Spring of Perkinston; one sister, Patty Koval of 84, PA; and a loving niece, Gia Taylor of Perkinston. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Ruth Flowers, and one nephew. Funeral services will be Friday, June 10, 2016 at Trinity Funeral Services, beginning with a visitation at 5:30 PM, followed by the memorial service at 7:00 PM. Mr. Buddy's wishes were to be cremated, which his family is honoring.
