Norma Je'Nell (Slade) Whisenant, 73, of Gulfport, MS was reunited with her husband of thirty-five years, on August 16, 2024, at Lakeview Hospital in Covington, LA. Norma was born on October 02, 1950, in Gulfport, MS to her parents, Bernard Irving and Norma Estelle (Edgar) Slade. Je'Nell as she was lovingly known, cherished life and the time spent with her family. Je'Nell was well known for the pies that she baked, especially her German Chocolate and Upside Down Apple Pecan pies that won first place in two different contests. Aside from cooking, Je'Nell enjoyed watching football where she happily rooted for the Saints and the Browns, unless they played each other, and of course, she was just a Saints fan! If you were special enough to have heard Je'Nell sing, then you were most definitely serenaded with songs from her favorite movie, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Je'Nell was kind and loving, and she showed that through her cooking and the time she spent with her grandkids and kids. Her family will miss her immensely but take comfort knowing her heart has been healed in more than one way. Je'Nell is preceded in death by her loving husband Roger Whisenant; her son, Michael Slade; one granddaughter Alanna Beck; one grandson, Edmon Staggs III; her parents Bernard and Norma Slade; and one brother, Mark Slade. Left to cherish her pies and singing, her three daughters, Kyra (Anthony) DeMore, Lauren Staggs, and Rachael Whisenant; her grandchildren, Lucas Andrews, Donald, Daniel, and Allyson Beck, Audry Simmerman, Caitlyn and Madelyn Staggs, Dax Whisenant, and Silas and Maisie Miller; her great-grandchildren Lydia and Jax Andrews; two brothers, Bernie (Suzanne) Slade, Jr. and Mike (Marie) Slade; and three sisters, Dianne (Barry) Swennumson, Lanette (Larry) Killebrew, and Karen (Randy) Bryant. Je'Nell leaves a legacy of numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends whom she loved very much. Je'Nell's immediate family will hold a private service, respecting her wishes to not have her passing "made into a big deal". Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Whisenant family and would ask that you cover her girls and the rest of the family in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days ahead.
