Norma Jean (Holder) Bell

April 2, 1941 — December 29, 2023

Gulfport

Norma Jean Bell, 82 of Pearl, passed away December 29, 2023 at her daughter's home in Gulfport. She was born April 02, 1941 in Nanticoke, PA, one of two children to John George and Ruth (Waichulis) Holder. She grew up a Navy brat, spending time in several cities and towns over the years while her father served. The family settled in Petal in the mid 50's and Norma graduated with the Panther Class of 1959. From there, she went to work at Fine's Department Store for a while before meeting David Bell at the bowling alley. They began dating and were later married in May of 1963. They lived in a couple of different places before eventually settling in Pearl, MS, where they called home for over 50 years. Norma was an avid home maker and family lady, taking special care of her home and children. She also had several, mostly part-time jobs through the years. One of those was H&R Block where she helped people with their taxes for over 20 years. In her free time, Norma continued to be an accomplished bowler. She bowled in her league every year, but also participated in countless tournaments, travelling all over the country and winning many of them over the years. She is remembered as a loving sister, wife, mother, and trusted friend. Norma showed her love in so many ways, like crocheting beautiful blankets for anyone who needed or wanted one. She supported her husband and kids in all their activities, cared for her mother when she developed Alzheimers, and eventually for David as he endured Parkinson's. On top of all that, she was ever available to anyone for bowling, crafting, gardening, medical, or just general life advice that she could share from any of her many experiences. Ever the selfless lady, she will be forever loved and missed by all whose life she touched. Norma was preceded by her parents, John and Ruth Holder, and the love of her life and husband of 55 years, David. Left to cherish her memories are: her two children, daughter Shannon Bell of Gulfport, and son Jason Bell of Jackson; her only brother, John (Shay) Holder, Jr. of Petal. She leaves a legacy of three grandchildren: Ryan and Mackenzie Newman, and Audrey Bell, along with numerous extended family, friends, and neighbors through the years. A graveside service is set for Friday, January 5th at 2:00 PM in Roseland Park Cemetery in Hattiesburg, MS. A memorial celebration of Norma's life is planned for 2:00 PM Saturday, January 6th at McLaurin Heights United Methodist Church.  Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Bell family in their time of need and asks that you remember them in your thoughts and prayers through the days ahead.
