Nelda Jean Hennes, a beacon of faith, passion, and love, was called home to be with the Lord July 26, 2023. Born October 10, 1945 in Mississippi, her life was a testament to the power of faith and the strength of family. Nelda was a woman of grace and elegance, yet she was also a force to be reckoned with. Her spirit was as mighty as the Mississippi River, and her faith was as deep as its waters. She was a worshipper, a prayer warrior, and a beacon of light in the lives of many. Her faith was unwavering, and her love for the Lord was evident in every aspect of her life. She was a mentor to many, guiding them with wisdom and compassion, and her impact will be felt for generations to come. Raised in the Spring Hill Community in Poplarville, Nelda was known for her dainty yet fierce demeanor. She had a knack for calligraphy and a passion for writing beautiful poems that touched the hearts of many. Her Italian creme cake was legendary, and her sewing skills were unparalleled. She lovingly crafted clothes for her daughters and quilts for each grandchild, each stitch a testament to her love and dedication. Nelda was a keeper of family treasures, preserving precious memories in the form of cassettes from family gatherings and countless photographs. Her home was a haven of warmth and hospitality, where a cup of coffee or a bite to eat was always on offer. Her grandbabies, who lovingly called her "MeMe," were the light of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them. She was a woman of grace and dignity, a pillar of strength in her community, and a beacon of light in the lives of those she loved. As we mourn the loss of Nelda Jean Hennes, we also celebrate her life and the profound impact she had on those around her. Her legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of those she touched, and her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. We take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace, resting in the arms of the Lord she served so faithfully. Nelda was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, Royce Hennes; two infant sons, Don Carlos and Gordon Ray Hennes; her parents, James Monroe Howard and Ollie Presley; her brother, James Howard; and her grandson, Eric Bailey. Left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Theresa Herrington and Lorrie Hennes, and her bonus daughter, Teresa Baggett; and her sister, Peggy Marble; grandchildren, Raygan, Nathan (Ashlyn), and Raeanna Herrington, Seth and Caleb Reid, and Brayden Baggett; great-grandchildren, Eric Tate, Hazel Grace, Sophia Lynn, Paisley Jane, and Beau Carter. Along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
