Nancy Lee Breland, 66 of Wiggins, went to her heavenly home Monday, August 23rd at St. Joseph Hospice in Gulfport. She was born December 27, 1954 in Bay Springs, MS, the tenth of twelve children and youngest girl to Woodrow and Nancy (Hilton) Campbell. She grew up a country girl in rural Jasper county, spending lots of time playing with her siblings and friends. Nancy learned to sew, cook and do just about anything from her mother, keeping those skills through her life. She attended Jasper county schools, opting to leave before graduating but did obtain her GED. One of her sisters had moved to Wiggins in the late 60s, and while visiting she happened to meet Roosevelt Breland. They were married and made their home in Wiggins. Nancy went to work at Azalea Gardens and later to Stone County Hospital. She was a nurses aid at first, but was able to get into a training program and became a therapist's assistant and remained at the hospital until it closed back in the 90s. Nancy went back to Azalea Gardens where she stayed until her retirement, spending her entire career caring for those in need. She was an amazing woman from her children's perspective. Nancy was momma, which meant doctor, lawyer, counselor or whatever they needed along the way. But it didn't stop there because she was the same for others in her family and community as well. Loving, caring, giving and eager to help is how she was described. Her door was always open, there was always something to eat, a bed to sleep in or just an ear to listen to whatever was going on, with some advice on how to handle it to boot! That was Nancy. She was a member at the Church of Christ on L McDonald Rd for many years and will be loved and missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded by her parents, Woodrow and Nancy Campbell, along with her siblings: Cassie Young, Dobie Campbell, David Campbell, Perry Campbell, Harold Campbell, Jr. and an infant brother, Willie Campbell. Left to cherish her memories are: her two children: Sonya Campbell and Kawaskie Breland, both of Wiggins; sisters Mary (Willie Fred) Blakely of Perkinston, Dorothy (Sherman) Hudson of Wiggins, with brothers Roy (Barbara) Campbell of Wiggins and Truman (Nancy) Campbell of Bay Springs. Nancy leaves a legacy of five grandchildren, bunches of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends, along with lots of unofficial clients through the years. A graveside service is scheduled for 4:00 PM Friday afternoon in the New Zion Church Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her late husband, Roosevelt. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Breland family once again, asking everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this trying time.
