Michael Robert Sterling

Michael Robert Sterling, 75, passed away August 30, 2022 in Lumberton, MS. Michael was born May 16, 1947 in Purvis, MS to Claiborne and Gertrude (Salter) Sterling. At a young age he worked with his family growing watermelon. For several years he served as the Band Booster President for his children’s high school. He always made certain that every band member was taken care of, ensuring they had everything they needed. Later in life Michael became “Big Mike” in the trucking world where he worked as a trucker and dispatcher. Michael was passionate about photography. Working as a wedding photographer he helped those capture their most special moments. Along with being an avid fisherman, he loved to cook. Specifically frying the catfish he had just caught or boiling crawfish and peanuts. Michael was a man of many talents also growing his own flower gardens in his earlier years. He knew all there was to know about scary movies, something he loved and shared with his grandchildren. Michael is preceded by his loving wife of 58 years, Irene Sterling; one son, Michael Sterling Jr.; his brother, Bill Sterling; and parents Claiborne and Gertrude (Salter) Sterling. Left to cherish all his wonderful memories are his children, Susie (Greg) Piercy, Kim Sterling, and Clay (Alanda) Sterling; his sister, Betty Brown; seven grandchildren, Mandy, Megan, Cody, Chris, Noah, Mackenzie, and Luke; four great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and many extended family and friends.
