Michael Paul "Homie" Shaffer

Michael Paul Shaffer known as "Homie", 53 of Saucier, passed away in a tragic accident July 14, 2023, on Hwy 49 in McHenry. He was born on August 03, 1969 in Sewickley, PA, the oldest of two children to Millard and Patricia Ann (Pawlikowski) Shaffer. Michael started his life in Pennsylvania, but moved to South Mississippi in the mid 70s. He was an outgoing, outdoors young man that loved climbing trees, which earned him the nickname "Monkey". He also enjoyed shooting marbles, riding his bicycle, along with all sorts of other stuff. He attended Harrison county schools and worked in construction most of his life. Michael is remembered as a loving son, brother, and father that was equally loved by all who knew him. Now he was more of the shy type, but once you knew him, he was wide open and friendly. He continued to enjoy the outdoors, going to the river, camping, bonfires with friends, and would still climb a tree now and again. Monkey leaves his family and friends far too soon, and will be dearly missed by all whose life he touched. He was preceded by his parents, Millard and Patricia Shaffer. Left to cherish the many fond memories are: his only son, Michael McGill; his sister, Melissa Powers of Gulfport; his girlfriend Sam Cade of Saucier, and a close friend, Kathern Gillis, also of Gulfport.; one nephew, Byron Northrop and numerous extended family and friends. Michael's final wishes were to be cremated, which his family is honoring. They will hold a celebration of his life at a later date.
