Picayune

Michael Poole Buckley, 69 of Picayune, passed away August 16th at Ochsner Medical Center in Jefferson, LA. He was born on June 29, 1953 in Jackson, MS, the second of seven children to James Cargile Buckley and Deriecee (Poole) Perry. He grew up between Pascagoula and Laurel, enjoying hunting, fishing, and playing pool. After his educational pursuits were over, Michael joined the US Army, serving in the post-Vietnam era. After his discharge, Michael moved around quite a bit. He has lived in Bayou Labatre, AL and captained a shrimp boat, spent some time with his sister on the West Coast just to aggrivate her, and then settled in Texarcana, TX where he ran a truck stop for many years. He also lived in Ore City, TX for a while, owning and operating B & F Auto Salvage. After Michael was done with that, he moved to Picayune and lived with his brother Victor for the past few years. He is remembered as a very determined, and straight forward individual. If he set his mind to something, there was no changing it. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, hunting, and fishing as often as possible. He was well known for his shenanigans, and loved picking and pulling pranks on family and friends. On the serious side, Michael was a hard working guy that was always busy. He was very skilled with his hands, and could do most anything, including fixing a broken toothbrush. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all whose life he touched. Michael was preceded by his father, James Buckley; his oldest brother Johnnie Buckley, Sr., and his younger brother Isaac Buckley, Sr. Left to cherish his memories are: his loving mother, Deriecee Perry; his siblings: sisters Gatha (Lonnie) White of Kinard, FL, and Deriecee (Jim) Swift of Rogersville, TN, with brothers Rory Buckley, also of Rogersville, and Victor Buckley of Picayune. Michael leaves a long line of extended family members, friends, and neighbors as well. The family has set visitation for Friday afternoon, August 19th at 2:00 PM, at Trinity Funeral Services in McHenry. Afterward, Michael will be transferred to Florida for interment in Buckhorn Cemetery next to his family. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Buckley family in their time of need, and asks that you remember them in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days.
