Maxwell Newell Porter

Maxwell Newell Porter, II, age 82, of McHenry, Mississippi, passed away on July 31, 2026, at Singing River Hospital in Gulfport. Born on December 11, 1943, in Uniontown, Ohio, Max, as he was known to all, was a skilled millwright for more than 30 years. His work took him across several states and even abroad, earning him the reputation of being a true jack-of-all-trades.

Max was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud family man who found his greatest happiness spending time with those he loved. He enjoyed yard work, reading, karaoke, and sharing stories from his many life experiences, and boy could he tell them! He met the love of his life, Kim, at a karaoke party. Max was sure to ask her to dance when he wasn't singing. They became the best of friends, were married, and shared 12 wonderful years together in McHenry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Maxwell Newell Porter, I and Mildred Francis Culp Porter. He is survived by his beloved wife, Kim; his children, sons Max Porter, III (Judy) and Victor Porter (Kat), and his daughter Tari Jewitt (Paul); his brothers-in-law, Chad Mitchell (Doris), Blake Mitchell, Matt Mitchell (Sherry), and Daniel Mitchell (Tamra); as well as numerous extended family members and friends far and wide.

Max will be remembered for his generous heart, his strong work ethic, his gift for storytelling, and the deep love he had for his family. His memory will be treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Max's finals wishes was to be cremated, which his family is honoring and a celebration of his life is being planned.
