Mary Joyce (Slayback) Woodall

Mary Joyce Woodall, 60, passed away on March 20, 2022 at 11:43 am at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, MS. She was born on March 15, 1962 on Long Island, NY, the oldest of six children to Henry Luther and Margaret Mary (Fox) Slayback. She grew in Copiague, NY where she enjoyed playing games and sports, playing Little League baseball, bingo, and more. Joy, as she was known to those closest to her. Mary was married at 20 to Wayne Mockler, had two beautiful daughters, Jessica and Krystal and made her home on Long Island. She worked in fast food and waitressing while she raised her two daughters. Joy spent most of her life in New York, but came to South Mississippi to visit her daughter, and decided to make her home here to be closer to her kids and grandchildren. She is remembered as an affectionate daughter and mother and grandmother who loved her family. Joy was caring and easy to get along with. She loved playing bingo, watching her cooking shows on television, and hanging out with her family. Preceded in death by Henry Slayback (Father), Brenda-Lyn Lopez (Sister), Alicia Grace Slayback (Sister). Left to cherish her memories are: her two daughters, Jessica (Trent) McLaurin of Poplarville, and Krystal Burge of Lumberton; her loving mother, Mary Slayback of Copaigue, NY; sisters Eileen (Greg) Quirk in babylon, NY, and Holly (Timothy) Gordon of Shirley, NY, and her brother Robert (Kathleen) Slayback of Islip, NY. Joy leaves a legacy of six grandchildren: Paige, Alyssa, Jeremy, Dylan, Justin, and T.J., along with several extended family and many friends. Her final wishes were to be cremated, which her family is honoring. A funeral mass will be celebrated for Joy at Our Lady of Assumption in Copiague, at a later date.
