Mary Catherine Holmes

Mary Catherine Holmes, 69, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2024. She was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi on November 24, 1954 to the late William Louis Holmes and Cynthia Holmes.  Mary is leaving behind a legacy of warmth and generosity. She was a devoted fan of Ole Miss Football and all things Ole Miss, Mary’s spirit was as vibrant as her enthusiasm for her alma mater. After graduating from Hattiesburg High School, she earned her master’s degree from the University of Ole Miss in education and was a proud member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Known for her kindness and ability to make friends wherever she went, Mary’s genuine care for others shone through in everything she did. Her love for her family, especially her grandchildren, and her tender care for her mother in her final days, reflected her deep compassion. Mary’s joy for life was evident in her lifelong passion for the beach and her generous heart. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Mary is preceded by her loving parents, Bill and Cynthia Holmes. She is survived by her loving son, Braden (Ali) Holmes; grandchildren, Payge Holmes, Reverdy Holmes, and James Holmes; brother, Louis (Coppie) Holmes; sister, Cynthia (Michael) Payne-Underwood; nephews, Abb (Jenifer) Payne and Will (Carly) Holmes; and one niece, Anna Catherine (Ryan) Gentle.
