Ms. Martha Jean Johns

Ms. Martha Jean Johns, 76 of Wiggins, passed away Thursday evening in Hattiesburg. Martha was born Dec. 26, 1940 in Gulfport, the middle of 5 children to Thomas H. and Ardell Helton. She grew up in the Orange Grove area, and after graduating high school, made a career with Majik Mart. She started as a cashier, and worked her way into management. Martha was a hard working, strong willed woman who loved and provided for her family. In her spare time, she enjoyed yard sales, working in her yard, and literally loved hunting for deals at Dirt Cheap. She is remembered as a stern but very loving and caring sister, mother, and grandmother, and will be greatly missed by all who loved her. She is survived by her children: Steve (Tamara) Graham of Kiln, Sonya Parker of Wiggins, and a grandson she raised as her own, Joseph Graham; her siblings: sisters Margie (Buford) Twine of Perk, Betty (Chuck) Roberts of Wiggins, Mary (Johnny) Harmon of Biloxi, and Diane Swetman of Wiggins, and a brother, Rudy (Joyce) Helton of Saucier; a sister-like niece, Rhonda Helton Jones; eleven grandchildren, eleven great-grands, numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. Martha was preceded by her parents, Thomas H. & Ardell Helton; a son, Darrell Wayne Graham; a daughter, Edwina Joy Bankston; a brother, Roger Helton, and a great-grandson, Hunter Middleton. The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday, Dec. 27 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Trinity Funeral Services in McHenry. A chapel service will begin at 1:00, followed by interment at the Dobson-Holliman Cemetery in Gulfport. Trinity is honored to serve the Johns family, and asks that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers through such a difficult time.
