Lloyd Dumas, whose passion for life, sense of humor, and unbreakable spirit, brought joy and inspiration to all who knew him, passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at the age of 72 at his home in Canton, MS. Born in Bellefontaine, Ms. on Sept. 1, 1949 to Larine Taylor Dumas and Avery Dumas, Lloyd was an identical twin, born minutes before his brother Floyd. He grew up in Eupora near Walthall. He graduated from Webster County Training School, then the school for African American students, in 1967. He moved to Chicago in 1969, and began his career at Continental Can Company as a stockman. He retired as Director of Maintenance and Engineering at American Can Company in 1995, after more than 25 years in the industry. Upon retirement, Lloyd realized his dream of moving back home to Mississippi and building a log home by hand. He settled in Canton, where he made a host of dear friends and neighbors and became a member of Mary Grove Missionary Baptist Church. For nearly 30 years, he struggled with the effects of heart disease with faith, grit, and humor. He is the beloved father of three children, Kevin, Nina, and Rodney; brother of Athrious Womber (deceased), Rachel Hawkins, Narlon Dumas, Floyd Dumas, and Kitty Dumas; and uncle to many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Monday, February 7, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Mary Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Canton, MS. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Lloyd’s memory to Mary Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Canton. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Dumas family in their time of need, and asks everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days.
