Leonard Turan, 86 of Saucier, passed away Thursday morning in Gulfport. Born October 19, 1931, Leonard was the oldest of 3 sons to Melton & Flora Turan, and grew up in the Success community of Saucier. He graduated from Success school in the late 40s, and attended Perkinston Junior College. In November 1951, he joined the Unites States Air Force, where he served honorably. Following his military service, Leonard married Lela Landrum, and they made their home in Saucier as well. He would work a few different jobs before becoming a longshoreman at the Port of Gulfport, where he remained for 25 years until his retirement. Leonard is remembered as a loving and devoted husband and father, a man who always kept his kids busy, especially the boys. The patriarch of the Turan family, he will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded by his parents, Melton & Flora Turan; and his youngest brother, Archie Turan. Left to cherish his memories are: his wife of 65 years, Lela; their children, Gerald (Roxann) Turan, Walter "Sook" (Esther) Turan, Randall "Booger" Turan, Melissa (Dennis) Meyers, and Belinda (David) Skelton, all of Saucier; his brother, Harry Dean (Mary) Turan of Wiggins; 7 grandchildren, 15 great-grands, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Services will be held Sunday afternoon at Saucier Baptist Church, with visitation at 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 3:00. Interment will be in the Saucier Community Cemetery behind the church. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Turan family, and asks that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days.
