On Thursday, October 20th, 2022, Lawyeen Ruth Roberts Gaughf Cammack, “Ms. Ruth,” went to walk with the Lord and his angels at the age of 91. She passed away after a strong fight to overcome a catastrophic brain injury. Ms. Ruth was born to Burton Weldon Roberts and Delma Marie Yelverton on January 28th, 1931 in Lamar County, Mississippi, and later resided in Hazlehurst, MS. She was preceded by her husbands, L.D. Gaughf Jr. and B.F. Cammack Jr., in addition to her sister Betty and her husband Tom Ross. Ms. Ruth devoted her life to the Lord and her family. While she fulfilled countless roles and performed each to the fullest, the most prominent were Mother, Granny, Confidant, and Entertainer. She kept family and friends laughing and made holidays special, always filled with love and her special recipes; especially her much anticipated giblet gravy and peanut butter fudge. She loved nature and traveled often throughout her life, going many places just to see the changes of seasons. She enjoyed many ports of call and countless trips to the mountains. When at her home, she spent many hours on her front porch watching the hummingbirds, while looking out at the beautiful Japanese magnolia trees lining her driveway. One of her greatest joys was her grandchildren. She beamed with pride watching them participate in athletics. She spent many weekends with her granddaughters at cheerleading competitions, as well as attending various other activities and sporting events for her numerous grandchildren. She is survived by her three children, Larry Gaughf and his wife Deborah of Gulfport, MS, Glen Gaughf and his wife Karen of Maryville, TN, and Tamra Gaughf Kharoba of Baton Rouge, LA. She leaves behind six grandchildren: Del Gaughf and his wife Memorie, Kevin Gaughf and his wife Natalie, Devon and her husband Giovanni Dezuani, Britney and her husband Michael Chopin, Elizabeth Kharoba, and Ally Kharoba. She is also survived by her ten great grandchildren: Austin (wife Heather), Tri, Malorie, Alyvia, Madalyn, Brian, William, Emery, Carsyn, and Ava. She will also be missed by her dear friend Robert Reeves of Crystal Springs, MS. Not long before her passing, a tiny pure white kitten with the most amazing crystal blue eyes mysteriously came into her life. Her angelic features led Ms. Ruth to name her ‘Angel.’ Although their time was short, she had a unique bond with Angel and loved her dearly. The family believes Angel was divinely sent, and now serves as a remembrance of her. Angel will now reside with her daughter in Baton Rouge. A private family service was held Monday, October 24, 2022 at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Gulfport, MS. Funeral services were directed by Mr. AJ Berrios at Trinity Funeral Home in McHenry, MS. Flowers were designed by Ms. Pam Rhodes at Skinners Florist in Wiggins, MS. Much gratitude to Mr. Barrios and Ms. Pam for their outstanding service. They both went above and beyond to anticipate every need and make every detail perfect. Another special thank you to all the doctors and staff who so attentively cared for Ms. Ruth at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson, MS. Everyone was so very compassionate, loving, and understanding during this tragic time. As we say goodbye, we know… Together or Apart, she will Always be in Our Hearts
