Mr. Lawrence "Butch" Blunt Jr

October 24, 1955 — April 22, 2017

Mr. Lawrence C. "Butch" Blunt, 61, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2017, at his home in Wiggins. Butch was born October 24, 1955 in Charleston, SC, and grew up in various cities and towns as part of a military family. He grew up to enjoy the outdoors, loving fishing and NASCAR. At 17, Butch joined the US Navy, serving his country during the Vietnam war. After his term in the Navy, Butch then joined the US Army, where he served another term. After his military career, he eventually went to work in the offshore oil industry, and made a career there, working as a storekeeper. In 1994, Butch met his soulmate, Barbara, and they were married the following year in the Friendship Oak in Long Beach. They eventually settled in Wiggins, partly due to Butch's love of fishing. The family would often camp out at Flint Creek, where he loved to fish. He was a very knowledgeable man, one that you would not want to compete against in Jeopardy. Butch adored his grandkids, and loved to sit and tell them stories. He enjoyed Western movies, was a John Wayne enthusiast, and loved all of his brothers "of the table".He will be remembered as a very caring man, a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Butch will be sadly missed by all who's life he touched. He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Barbara; his children, a son Richard Breland, and a daughter, Sheri Burrell, both of Wiggins; his sisters, Debbie Reeves (Dave) of Saucier, Sandy Games (Gene) of CA, Rachel Jackson of Biloxi, and Linda McNeil of Georgia; his mother, Bobbie Culpepper of Gulfport, his grandchildren, Ashley, Hunter, and Ricky "Scooter" Breland, Zeke Defelice, Jason Hughes, and Tyler and Karissa Lang; and his great-grandkids, Zaidin, Zailey, Aaron, and Aiden; Aunt Marie & Uncle Charles Praust of Houston, TX; his furry kids, Max, Shadow Girl, Big Girl, and Little Girl, as well as several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. Butch was preceded in death by his dad, Joel Culpepper. His wishes were to be cremated, which his family is honoring. Butch will be returned to Charleston, SC afterward. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to assist the Blunt family in their time of need.
