Larry Wayne Peterson, 76 of Kiln, passed away December 13, 2022 at Slidell Memorial Hospital. He was born November 06, 1946 in Bay St. Louis, the youngest of three boys to Alvin Joseph and Etha (Moran) Peterson. He grew up in Pass Christian where he enjoyed riding his bicycle and playing baseball. Wayne could ride his bike wherever he needed to go, usually riding to go play baseball or play with friends. He attended Pass Christian schools, graduating with the Pirate Class of 1963. From there, Wayne went to diesel mechanic school in Gulfport, but got himself a job at Stennis working for GE, later transferring to Boeing. Wayne never really worked as a mechanic, except on the side for himself. He spent his career at Stennis, retiring from Boeing in 2004. He met Linda in 1965, and they were married April 8, 1966. They made their home in Pass Christian until 1969 when a little storm named Hurricane Camille destroyed most everything they had. After that, they moved to Necaise Crossing, calling that community home ever since. When he wasn't working, Wayne loved to coach baseball, and did so for over 40 years. He helped build the fields and coached many teams through the years, garnering many trophies over his span, including a travel ball World Series win in Orange beach, FL. Off the ball field, Wayne enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing, raising cattle and taking care of them. To relax, you could usually find him on the couch, watching his old Western movies and shows. Wayne is remembered as the most loving husband and father that ever was. He took care of his wife and family, but his caring did not stop there. This man mentored, and was a father figure to so many young boys through the years. Even his sister-in-law describes him as a "great man", which most everyone who knew him would as well. His approach to life was a model for so many, and the world would be a far better place if all men were like Wayne. He will be forever missed by his family, and so many more whose life he touched. Wayne was preceded by his parents, Alvin and Etha Peterson, and his brothers Glen and Tony Peterson. Left to cherish his memories are: his devoted wife of over fifty-seven years, Linda Peterson; their son, Alan Peterson, with nieces and nephews: Carson (Jessica) Jordan, Landan Jordan, Paige Jordan, Clay Jordan, Stanley (Paula) Jordan, and Yancy Jordan; with his sister-in-law, Gloria (Doug) Entrekin, along with numerous extended family members, friends, neighbors, and players through the years. Wayne's final wishes were to be cremated, which his family is honoring. A Celebration of Life is set for Saturday, December 17th at Shiloh Baptist Church, beginning at 11:00 AM. All who knew and loved Wayne are welcome to come celebrate his life with us. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Peterson family in their time of need and asks that you remember them in your thoughts and prayers through the days ahead.
