Larry Lynn Matthew Tillman

April 27, 1946 — August 22, 2021

Gulfport, MS

Larry Lynn Matthew Tillman passed away August 22, 2021, at the age of 75. He was born in Pass Christian, Mississippi to a fisherman and his wife, James (Daddy Jim) Tillman and Vivien Cox Tillman. Larry was one of 12 children, along with his siblings: Pat, Billy, Carolyn, Bucky, Michael, Timmy, Gerald, Stephen, Tammy, Becky, and Nathan.

Larry was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1964  and married Joe Ann King in 1966. They had four children: Pamela Derouen (Jason), Stephanie Clark (Bubba), Cheryl Darrah, and Jeffry Tillman (Farrell) (all of which he is survived by). He is also survived by 8 grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as Papa Larry: Savanna, Hannah, Felisha, Casey, Courtney, Ethan, Lexie, Jackson, with one great grandchild, Naomi. Larry is also survived by his wife, Sheryl Maurer, who he was married to for 26 years until the time of his passing. Sheryl lovingly cared for Larry as his health and strength failed him.

Larry worked very hard from a young age as a commercial fisherman. He shrimped and oystered all over the Mississippi Sound and the Gulf. He also learned the trade of welding and worked at shipyards, both here in Mississippi as well as Galveston, Texas. He was extremely knowledgeable and talented. He built boats, made shrimp nets, trawl doors, spliced cable, fixed and repaired diesel engines, winches and just about anything that could be found on a boat.  Larry was very safety conscious and taught his children to be also. He was generous and would give fish and crabs to people in need when he was fishing. He never met a stranger.

For many years before he died, he made it a point to always mention to his children that there is only one way to be happy and have a successful life and that is to worship and be obedient to the creator of this beautiful Earth. He looked forward to the day when God's Kingdom would come just as Jesus taught us to pray for. He looked forward to the blessings that the Kingdom will bring to all. Isaiah 25:8 "He will swallow up death forever, And the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will wipe away the tears from all faces".
