Larry Dedeaux, affectionately known as "Kingfish," passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026, at the age of 78 in his beloved home in The Barth Community, Perkinston, Mississippi. Surrounded by his loving family, Larry’s departure marks the end of a life well lived—one characterized by steadfast dedication, resilience, and deep-rooted love for those closest to him.Born on October 10, 1947, in Poplarville, Mississippi, Larry was the cherished son of Jeanie Faye Smith Foretich. He was also preceded in death by his father M.L. Dedeaux and stepfather, Mr. O.V. Davis, and his brother, Harley E. Davis of Poplarville.Larry was united in marriage to Janis Maye Shaw Dedeaux on June 11, 1969, a partnership that spanned decades and brought great joy and strength to both their lives. Together, they raised two children who meant the world to Larry, and through them, he was blessed with three grandchildren and one great-grandchild, who were the radiant lights in his later years.He is survived by his devoted wife Janis, who stood steadfastly by his side, providing unwavering care and support until his final days. Larry’s legacy continues through his son, Anthony (Rose)Dedeaux, and his daughter, Michelle Dedeaux (Morgan) Gill, respectively. His grandchildren Raymond Gill and his wife Laramie, Hunter Gill, and Jesse Cole Gill, as well as his great-grandchild, Holt Raymond Gill. Larry also leaves behind his sister, Mary Ann Shaw, who shared his life’s journey with an abundance of love and affection.Larry's distinguished character was evident early in life when, at just seventeen, he enlisted in the United States Navy. Serving four years aboard the USS ESSEX CVS-9, he demonstrated a commitment to his country and a sense of duty that would define much of his life. After his honorable service, Larry became a self-employed man known for his versatility and tireless work ethic. His skills spanned logging, mechanicing, welding, and heavy equipment operation, and he was a proud part owner and operator of DS&L Gravel in Steep Hollow, Mississippi. Though a work-related accident in 1996 left him disabled, Larry's resilience and spirit never faltered.In his youth, Larry found pleasure in outdoor pursuits such as deer hunting and foxhound field trials, activities that spoke to his connection with nature and tradition. As the years progressed, his greatest joy came from the simple, profound moments shared with his family, especially the treasured time spent with his grandchildren.The family expresses their deepest gratitude to the compassionate staff at Enhabit Hospice, whose exceptional care and kindness provided comfort and solace during Larry’s final chapter.Friends and loved ones are invited to honor Larry’s memory through visitation and funeral services at Community Baptist Church, located at 32 Community Church Road Poplarville, Mississippi, on Monday, June 1, 2026. Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, followed immediately by the funeral service at 10:30 AM. Larry will be laid to rest at the Community Baptist Church Cemetery, where his memory will remain forever cherished.Pallbearers will include Raymond Gill, Jesse Cole Gill, Bobby Evans, Mike Smith, Daniel Ray Peterson, and Johnathan Cameron, with Hunter Gill, Larry Smith, Herbert W. Gentry "Bert" serving as honorary pallbearers.The family would also like to thank Bro. Jarred Havard and the members of Community Baptist Church, with a special thanks to Denette Hariel.Larry Dedeaux "Kingfish" leaves behind a legacy of hard work, devotion, and enduring love. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
