Juanita Mary (Daugherty) Slaughter

December 25, 1933 — December 1, 2022

Wiggins

Juanita Mary Slaughter, 88 and originally of North Bend, WA, passed away December 01, 2022 at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg. She was born December 25, 1933 in Feather Falls, CA, one of seven children to Donald O. and Mary Catherine (Austin) Daugherty. Juanita grew up in Feather Falls, but spent time in several other places while her father worked in construction. She grew up a country girl and enjoyed riding horses and playing with her siblings and friends. She attended schools in a couple of different places before meeting Edward at a riding stable. They dated for a while and were married in 1952, making their home in Amarillo, TX. Over the next several years, the family moved around while Buck worked in construction as well. Juanita worked some as a waitress and cashier along the way, but her primary job was mother and homemaker, taking care of her children and family. Later in life, Juanita decided to move from Washington to South Mississippi, to be closer to her daughter. She is remembered as a sweet, loving person with a beautiful smile. She definitely had the gift of persuasiveness, able to talk you into anything she wanted. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, crocheting, mysteries and detective-type stories and shows. While in Washington, Juanita opened and ran a second-hand / consignment shop, which she enjoyed so much. She loved to browse and dig around in places like Dirt Cheap, always searching for the next bargain. It was a trip if you went along, as she didn't miss anything while there. A Christian by her faith, Juanita was a gentle, loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed stirring the pot occasionally, just for the laughs and fun of it. And when she laughed, her whole face would light up, with a twinkle in her eye and a beautiful smile to go along with it. She was so much to her family and more, and will be dearly missed by all whose life she touched. Juanita was preceded by her parents, Don and Mary Daugherty; her siblings, brothers Emory and Frank, and sisters Rosetta, Marietta, and Ruby; her loving husband for over twenty-five years, Edward "Buck" Slaughter; their son, Don Slaughter; and her granddaughter Katelyn Yoho. Left to cherish her memories are: her children: Kathy (Ed) Yoho and Michael Slaughter, both of Wiggins; Evelyn Alves, Tammy Slaughter, and Frank Slaughter, all of Washington, with Tom (Debbie) Slaughter of Oregon; with her brother Buck (Laurie) Daugherty, also of Oregon. She leaves a legacy of eight grandchildren: Brooklyn, Adam, Cody, Joshua, Sarah, Tessa, Jessie, and Zachary, with twelve great-grands and a host of extended family and friends across the country. Her final wishes were to be cremated, which her family is honoring. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date, and she will likely be returned to Feather Falls, CA, which was her most favorite place in the world. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Slaughter family in their time of need, and asks that you remember them in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days.
