Joseph Doyle Lewis

May 3, 1944 — August 18, 2021

Gulfport, MS

Joseph Doyle Lewis, 77 of Gulfport, passed away Wednesday afternoon, August 18th at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport. Born May 3, 1944 in Gulfport, he was the oldest of two sons to James Lucius and Annie Belle (Hilburn) Lewis. Doyle grew up in Gulfport where he and his brother played together a lot. They stayed around home mostly, until they discovered softball and bowling. Doyle attended Gulfport schools before entering the workforce. He worked at Allen Beverages for many years, walking to work every day. Doyle never drove a vehicle...ever. If he couldn't walk to where he needed to be, he would catch a ride with a friend or someone going that direction. He was a simple guy that didn't require a lot and rarely wore shoes unless he had to. Doyle kept to himself for the most part, staying at home watching old westerns and Jerry Lewis movies on television...until football season came around that is. He absolutely loved college football, watching every game he could get on his tv. Though he was an Alabama Crimson Tide fan, Doyle could tell you pretty much anything about any SEC team, along with most other teams as well! He had quite a collection of t-shirts from different schools as well. Doyle lived with his mother and helped take care of her until her passing. He met Amanda and they decided to get married just seven years ago. Even then, he enjoyed staying around home for the most part, playing on his laptop or watching tv. Doyle will be forever missed by those who knew and loved him. He was preceded by his parents, Lucuis and Annie Belle Lewis, and his brother Jerrold. Left to cherish his memories are: his loving wife Amanda; his nephew Luke (Kimberly) Lewis of Lakeshore and nieces Rachel Ladner and Chandrea Saucier, with his sister-in-law Ann Lewis, along with several extended family and friends. A graveside service is set for 11:00 AM Friday, August 20, 2021 at Floral Hills in Gulfport.
