Johnnie Albert James, age 87, passed away on July 1, 2022 in Gulfport, MS. He was born in Gideon, MO on June 9, 1935 to the late Elmer and Atlas James.
Johnnie was raised in Missouri, but he moved to Mississippi to pursue his dream of being a clergyman and helping others. He and his wife Yvonne came to Mississippi to help with church missions and every Sunday before he retired, they would cook for his congregation. Johnnie was a kind-hearted man that liked to joke around and keep things light. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. When Johnnie was not helping others as a skilled handyman and a jack of all trades, he also enjoyed tinkering in his yard all day. Johnnie was a great father, grandfather, husband, and friend to many that will be missed dearly.
Johnnie is preceded by his parents, Elmer and Atlas James and he is also preceded by four brothers and one sister. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Yvonne James; children, Ricky (Helen Bailey) James, Rhonda (Joel) Cospelich, Debera (Art) Schreiber, and Darian (Amy) James; grandchildren, Ricky (Sheila) James, Dawn (Shawn) Nett, Timmy James, Nick (Hannah) Schrieber, Robert James, Caleb (Ashley) James, Cassandra (Erik Gobel) James, Cameron (Katie) James, Triston (Brittany) James, Jessi James, Joey Cospelich, and Conner Bailey; great-grandchildren, Damien (Michelle) James, Nate, Kyleigh (Alex) Nethington, Brionna Taylor, Mark La Chance, Jake James, Kallie James, Cainen James, Charlie Schrieber, Aubrey Schrieber, and one great-grandchild on the way. Johnnie is also survived by his great great-grandchild Asher Nethington and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Friday July 08, 2022 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m with interment following in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
