John A. Ravoira, Sr., 66 of McHenry, passed away Monday afternoon in New Orleans. John was born March 25, 1951 in Salem, Ohio, the 2nd of 6 children to Carl & Ruby Ravoira. Being part of a military family, John grew up in many different areas, as his father served in the US Navy. He was an outgoing, athletic, and tough young man that enjoyed football and baseball. After school, John enlisted in the US Marine Corps, serving honorably during the Vietnam era. He met the love of his life in Gulfport, MS in 1973, and the two were married on January 11, 1974. John was a multi-talented and skilled man, and a licensed diesel mechanic, but made a career as a commercial driver, even operating his own company, J & P Trucking. He is remembered by his daughters as a loving, caring, and strong-willed man, an honorable man and a great father, and by his wife as a devoted, giving, and thoughtful man who was so generous and dedicated, and a wonderful provider for his family, whom he wanted around him all the time. John was a born-again believer in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, and took his family to church as well, being fondly known as a "front row" baptist. John was licensed to preach the gospel at Temple Baptist Church in 1990. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. John was preceded by his parents, a sister, Carla Ann Burks, and a brother, Bobby Ravoira. Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 44 years, Peggy Sue; his two daughters, Wendy Avin of Gulfport, and Monica (Travis) McQuillan of Saucier, and a son, John A. Ravoira, Jr.; his siblings, brothers Patrick Ravoira of NE, and Ted (Pamela) Loggins of AL, and one sister, Ann (Gerard) MacInnis of Canada; five grandchildren: John D. Avin of Gulfport; Payton, Jayla, and James McQuillan of Saucier; and Haley Ravoira, along with several nieces, nephews, and friends. The family will recieve friends and neighbors for visitation on Sunday, March 25th from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Trinity Funeral Services in McHenry. A second visitation time will be from 10:00 until 11:00 AM on Monday morning, March 26th at Saucier Holiness Church. The funeral ceremony will begin at 11:00 AM, with interment to follow at Three Rivers Free Church of God in Gulfport. Trinity is honored to assist Ms. Peggy and the family with arrangements, and asks that you please keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
