Lumberton

John Tyler Martin of Lumberton passed away Thursday, February 22, 2024 at UMMC in Jackson, at just 28 years old. He was born on August 10, 1995 in Hattiesburg, the son of Stephen and Paula K. Martin. Known as Tyler to those who truly knew him, he grew up in and Lumberton and was an outgoing country boy from the start. Anything outdoors, especially hunting, he was all about it. Tyler enjoyed sports as well, but he loved baseball. He started playing from a young boy in the rec leagues, all the way through school, and was a member of the Lumberton baseball family. After his time as a Lumberton Panther, he went on to Pearl River Community College. Tyler's love for hunting and baseball stuck with him. Combine that with his love for kids, and you had a heck of a dad and Little League coach. He loved laughing and making others laugh as well. If you wasn't careful, you might even get caught up in one of his many practical jokes. Tyler could pull some doozies now…just ask his brother Bradley about that. Tyler is remembered as simply a fantastic guy. He loved his wife and family, doing his best to provide for them every day. When he wasn't working, he could usually be found near or on a ball field, or in the woods hunting. A loving son, husband, father and trusted friend to so many, Tyler will be forever missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded by his great-grandmothers Helen Knight and Willie Penton; his uncle Calvin Knight; mother-in-law Faye Georgia and father-in-law Gary Houston; a grandmother-in-law, Mattie Georgia; and his great grandfather, Drew Pridger. Left to cherish his memories are: his loving wife Jillian, and their. Children: Chandlier Houston, Cassidy Martin, and Skyler Lewis; his parents, Stephen and Paula Martin; his brothers Bradley (Whitney) Martin and Kamern Martin; and his grandparents: Billy Wayne (Linda) Martin, Don (Karen) Davis, and Dale Chestnut, along with numerous extended family, countless friends and players who will all miss him dearly. Tyler's final wishes were to be cremated, which his family is honoring. A Celebration of Tyler's Life will be held at First Baptist Church of Lumberton on Saturday, March 2nd. Visitation will begin at 1, followed by a memorial service at 2 PM. The family asks that you consider donations to the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge in lieu of flowers.
