Mr. John Lewis Huggins passed away peacefully on July 15, 2026, in Carriere, MS.

Born in Thomasville, Georgia, John was a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend. He lived a life marked by hard work, quiet strength, and unwavering love for God and his family.

John and his family lived in Picayune, Mississippi, for over 25 years. After retiring from Lockheed Martin, he and his beloved wife, Rhetta, moved to Daphne, Alabama. In his later years, he returned to Picayune, where he resided at Serenity Pearl Living Center, receiving compassionate care from a staff who treated him like family and who continue to lovingly care for his wife.

He retired from Lockheed Martin after many years of dedicated service, where he was respected for his strong work ethic and commitment. Above all else, he treasured time spent with family and friends, whether sharing stories about the space program, ham radio, or genealogy.

John also had a deep love for travel. He and Rhetta visited many places around the world, with Israel holding a special place in their hearts, while Scotland was his favorite because of his deep family roots. They also traveled to France, England, Egypt, and many other places too numerous to count. Many of these cherished trips were shared with Rhetta’s sister, Rachel, and her husband, Bobby, creating lasting memories and strengthening family bonds. Closer to home, they enjoyed many special family trips to Gulf Shores with Rhetta’s sister Shirley and her husband, Tommy, creating treasured memories filled with laughter and togetherness.

John shared a love story for 54 years with his beloved wife, Rhetta, that many would say resembled something out of The Notebook—a lifelong partnership built on deep faith in God, devotion, enduring commitment, and a love that only grew stronger with time. Together, they created a God centered home filled with warmth, faith, and lasting memories.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Rhetta Huggins; his daughter, Leta Necaise (Randy Necaise); his son, Lewis Huggins; and other cherished family members and friends who will forever hold his memory in their hearts.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Lewis Huggins; his mother, Leta Pearl Maxwell Huggins; and his brother, Wilton Lawrence (Butch) Huggins.

Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing his legacy of love, kindness, and strong faith will continue through those whose lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
