John Raymond Goekler

February 15, 1939 — March 2, 2025

Perkinston, MS

John Raymond Goekler, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2025, in Wiggins, Mississippi, at the age of 86. Born the eldest child of the late Hazel Woods Goekler and Raymond Leroy Goekler on February 15, 1939, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, John's life was characterized by his dedication to his family, his country, and his love for the outdoors. John served his country with pride as a Draftsman in the United States Navy for over 20 years, retiring in 1976. His commitment to service continued as he later retired from the United States Post Office, where he was known as a dedicated mail carrier. John's work ethic and involvement in his community set a standard for all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Jenny Wheat Goekler, and cherished family members including his daughters Marilyn Goekler Brousseau and Karen Goekler Tipton, daughter-in-law Lori Holliman Goekler, grandson Patrick Lee, and brother-in-law Ed Silva, his legacy will continue to thrive through his surviving loved ones. John leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife Dynona Alexander Goekler, sons Johnny Goekler and Billy Goekler, and his daughters: Lari Goekler Lee (Tony), Kelly Goekler Dukes (Jason), Stacey Alexander Creel (Michael), and Toni Alexander Cibene (Mike), his brother Bob Goekler (Billie), and his sister Kaye Silva. John's legacy includes 19 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended relatives who will continue to honor his memory through their own lives.

One of John's greatest joys was fishing, a passion he shared with his father and brother. The "extreme fish tales" that have been passed down through the generations are a testament to the many happy hours he spent on the water, rod in hand, with a twinkle in his eye. These stories will continue to be told with fondness and a touch of humor, keeping John's spirit alive in the hearts of his family. Friends may visit at Trinity Funeral Services in McHenry on Thursday March 6, 2025, beginning at 1 pm. A chapel service will follow at 3pm. John will be laid to rest with military honors at Biloxi National Cemetery on Friday March 7, 2025.
