Mr. John Crittenden, 52 of Gulfport, passed away on Friday, February 24th, at Garden Park Hospital, after a lengthy battle with illness that began with pneumonia. John was born May 21, 1964 in Highland Park, Michigan, the 4th of 5 children to David L. and Rose Marie Crittenden. He grew up in that area, just South of Detroit, and enjoyed the outdoor life from his early years. Fishing, camping, and baseball were his primary focus as a young man. John was crafty, and enjoyed working and building things with his hands, and made a career as a carpenter. He worked in the construction field all of his life, making his way to the Gulfport area some 15 years ago. Those that know John refer to him as a fun-loving man who was a joy be around, and did not know a stranger. He will be remembered as a "best friend", a fun and giving man. John will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his best friend and brother, David Crittenden, and his mother, Rose Marie Crittenden, both of Gulfport; a sister, Kim Allen of Houston, TX; his mother, his estranged wife, Deedee Dunbar, and their children, Jillian, Jonathon, Journee, Jericho, and Jacoby Dunbar, all of Virginia Beach, VA; an aunt, Denise Savill of Orange Co., CA; 4 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, David L. Crittended, and two siblings, a brother Mark Crittenden, and a sister, Robin Crozier. John's wishes were to be cremated, which his family is honoring.
