Joe Charles Barrett of Lumberton, passed away Monday, March 8th at his home. Joe was born February 9, 1961 in Poplarville, the ninth of eleven children to Delac Sr. and Edna (Sullivan) Barrett. He was a life-long resident of Lumberton, where he was well known around the community. A Christian by faith, Joe was a more than giving person, willing to give you the shirt off his back if need be. He was very interested in how things worked, which led to his working in a small engine repair shop there in Lumberton. He is remembered as a very loving and protective brother and friend. Joe loved to tell stories, and his vivid imagination, he was pretty good at it. He seemed almost drawn to people who needed somebody, doing his best to help in any way he could. Joe will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded by his parents, Delac and Edna Barrett, Sr.; one sister, Anita Barrett-Head, and three brothers, James, Billy and Delac Barrett, Jr. Left to cherish the many fond memories are: his sisters: Helen (Allen) Fairley, Beth (Howard) Coulter, Clara (Ricky) Gill and Wanda (Charles) Sweeny, with two brothers, Phillip (Wanda) and Richard (Cheryl) Barrett, along with his sister-in-law, Sis Barrett. Joe also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends as well. Services will be held at Trinity Funeral Services in Lumberton, with visitation from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM Wednesday evening, March 10th, and again at 1:00 PM Thursday, March 11th. A chapel service will begin at 2:00 PM, with interment following at Byrdline Cemetery. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Barrett family in their time of need, asking everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days.
