Jimmy Earl Smith, age 71, of Lumberton passed away at his home on March 3, 2020. He was born in Alabama to Leonard and Sally Mae (Wilson) Smith on July 19, 1948. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters; Ed, Robert, Jessie, Buddy, and Lil John Smith. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his children; James (Myrtis) Smith, Wanda (Dale) Carter, Paula (William) Nemmers and David (Mildred) Smith, grandchildren; Brandon, Brittni, Dexter (Molly), Austin, Cord, Adrianna, Kimberly, C.J., Robert (Emily) and Samantha, great grandchildren; Eli, Kayson, Ava, Remington, and one on the way. Sister in law; Helen Smith, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Some people will remember him as serving in the Army as a sharpshooter during Vietnam and then later becoming a driller. But his family knew him as a kind and loving father and grandpa. He took his children and whomever else would go fishing on the creeks with him. No worm was safe around him! He had a motto for his children- You catch it-You clean it. Jimmy was a prankster. He always enjoyed getting one over on you if he could. You could be sure 50% of every story he told was true, you just didn’t know what 50%. Jimmy was loved beyond measure and truly leaves an empty spot in the family. A visitation will be held at Trinity in Lumberton on Friday, March 6 from 6 pm to 8 pm.
