Jesse Bryant Helveston, 72 of McHenry, passed away Thursday morning, January 20th at his home, surrounded by loved ones. He was born December 2, 1949 in Hattiesburg and grew up in Gulfport, where he enjoyed working with his dad in the family business, Helveston Paint and Drywall. Jesse will be remembered for starting youth football in Saucier, coaching many players on the Co-Op Dragons team. He was a member of McHenry Landmark Missionary Baptist Church and enjoyed singing and playing his guitar in church, as well as posting songs on Facebook. Jesse was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded by his parents, Jake and Faye Helveston, and his grandson, Cole Helveston. Left to cherish his memories are: his loving wife of fifty-one years, Elaine Helveston; their two sons, Jeremy and Mark Helveston, both of McHenry; his sister, Linda (Monroe) Walker of Big Level, and brothers Randy (Crystal) Helveston of Saucier and Stanley (Bridget) Helveston, also of McHenry. He leaves a legacy of three grandchildren: Taylor and Hannah Helveston, and Kristin Watson, one great-grandson, Maddox Watson, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Services will be held Saturday, January 29th at McHenry Landmark Missionary Baptist Church. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at noon, with Bro. Billy Ray Bond officiating. Following the service, Jesse will be laid to rest in McHenry Gardens Cemetery. The family would like extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Allison Wall and Cedar Lake Oncology, as well as the staff at Canon Hospice, for their care through this fight.
