Jerry "Woody" Woodcock Sr., age 78, passed away on July 19, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 16, 1947 in Gulfport, MS to the late William "Bill" Woodcock and Bessie "Dit" Woodcock.
Jerry “Woody” Woodcock Sr., a beloved father, grandfather, Vietnam veteran, and man of deep faith, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and kindness that will never be forgotten.
Born and raised in Long Beach, Mississippi, Jerry was a proud graduate of Long Beach High School, Class of 1965. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Enterprise during the Vietnam War, a chapter in his life that he wore with pride and humility.
A lifelong servant to his community, Jerry worked many years at Reichhold Chemical, Henderson Ford, and with the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office. He later settled in Stone County in 2003, where he continued to live out a simple and fulfilling life surrounded by the people he loved.
Jerry had a gift for many things—he was a talented gospel singer and a faithful member of his church family, known not just for his powerful voice but for his generous heart. Every Sunday, he'd hand out one-dollar bills to the children at church so they could have something to put in the offering plate—a small gesture that left a big impact.
A devoted family man, Jerry was a loving father to three children and made sure his family always had what they needed. He was frugal, wise, and hardworking, but above all, kind and deeply generous. Whether he was sharing a laugh, offering advice, or giving someone a nickname (as he did with just about everyone), Jerry made people feel seen and cared for.
Coaching was one of Jerry’s greatest passions. For years, he coached youth sports in Long Beach, not just teaching kids how to play the game but how to be better people. He had a rare talent for guiding young hearts, and many still carry the lessons he taught them on and off the field.
Fishing was his favorite pastime—nothing brought him more peace than being out on the water. But he was also a homebody at heart, happiest spending time on his property, enjoying the quiet, and being with family.
Laid-back, funny, easy to talk to, and a true friend to many, Jerry Woodcock Sr. will be remembered for the love he gave, the faith he lived, and the lives he touched.
