Jerry Wayne Davenport, born on January 21, 1950, embraced life with a spirit and warmth that drew everyone into his orbit. A proud veteran of the Vietnam War, Jerry served honorably in the U.S. Army, carrying the values of courage and integrity throughout his journey. His career boasting skills as a bricklayer, carpenter, and pipe fitter. Yet, the crown jewel of his professional legacy was the successful custom drapery and installation business he ran alongside his beloved wife, Vandy, for an astounding 32 years.
As the sun sets on his remarkable life, the memories of his vibrant spirit linger on, echoed in the laughter of those he cherished. Jerry was not just a father or grandfather; he was a pillar, affectionately known as Coach Papa to the youth of Saucier. Coaching half of the local youth, he filled the softball and baseball fields with joy, marking each game with encouragement and pride. His influence extended beyond athletics; he created thrilling and adventurous camping, hiking and biking trails.
Jerry’s playful nature and infectious humor were hallmarks of his personality. A true jokester at heart, he possessed the unique ability to make people laugh, turning strangers into friends with ease and grace. His willingness to lend a helping hand was an extension of his boundless generosity; he never hesitated to jump in when someone was in need.
He devoted himself wholeheartedly to his family, reveling in the joys of being a dad, uncle, and especially a papa. With eight adoring grandchildren—Morgan, Hannah, Kendal, Andrew, Emma Grace, Michael, CJ, and Avery—he beamed with pride and took joy in supporting and encouraging their dreams. He had numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews that he adored. Also overjoyed by the arrival of his great grandson, Anthony Joseph “Tripp,” filled his heart with further joy, marking another cherished chapter in a life filled with love.
Jerry passed away on December 9, 2025, at the Biloxi VA Medical Center, leaving behind an indelible legacy of compassion, commitment, and joy. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Vandy Davenport; daughters Jennifer (Gaylon Jr.) Rolison, Ami (Allan) Sewell, and Crystal (Nick Jr.) Pitalo; sister Bonnie (Aubrey) Montgomery; and his cherished grandchildren and great grandson.
In his absence, he joins his beloved father, James Davenport, and mother, Elizabeth Davenport, along with father-in-law Huey Moran and mother-in-law Lou Moran. He is also reunited with brother-in-law Lee Stewart and cherished nephews Howie Price and Timmy Price, as well as great niece Colbi Capuano.
As we gather the threads of shared memories, we celebrate the life of Jerry Wayne Davenport—a man whose spirit of laughter, love, and kindness will forever be woven into the fabric of our hearts.
