Jerrell Devon
Bond
March 3, 1937 – April 25, 2026
Jerrell Devon Bond, affectionately known as J.D., passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026, in Gulfport, Mississippi. Born on March 3, 1937, in Wiggins, Mississippi, Mr. Bond’s life was marked by dedication, skill, hard work, and a unique personality that resonated with all who knew him.
Raised in the home his father built on Big Level in Wiggins, J.D. grew up with strong family roots and a deep appreciation for his heritage. He graduated from Stone County High School before embarking on a journey that would define much of his life. Upon graduation, he joined the Army National Guard, where he developed a lifelong passion for mechanics. His skill and enthusiasm not only enriched his own life but also benefited many young Guardsmen whom he mentored in the craft by becoming an Instructor.
J.D.’s career was largely devoted to Ingalls Shipyard in Pascagoula, where he served with distinction as a Quality Assurance Inspector for over three decades until his retirement. Through his work, he maintained a commitment to excellence and integrity that was admired by colleagues and friends.
Known for his quick wit and love of humor, J.D. brought light-heartedness to some of the most ordinary moments. Beyond his professional life, he was a man of many talents—skilled in fishing, engine repair and rebuilding, as well as carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work. His capability to build or fix nearly anything was well-known and deeply respected. Mr. Bond was also a lifelong Freemason and a member of the Elks Lodge in Pascagoula, MS; his family were members of the Aquatic Club, where he served on the Board and was elected President for several years, ensuring a safe place for his children to spend time during the hot summers of South Mississippi.
He took great pride in his family heritage, dedicating time to researching his lineage back to its origins in Cornwall, England, a pursuit that brought him much satisfaction. A simple man at heart, J.D. lived a full life and was proud of the person he had become through his choices and hard work.
Mr. Bond was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Allen J. and Lola D. (Broadus) Bond; his sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie Lee and William F. Hunt; his firstborn son, Curtis Devon Bond; his wife, Winogean (Hatten) Bond; and Josie Christine Bond, the mother of his children.
He is survived by three children: daughter Rita Darlene Bond, daughter Lori Damaris Britt, and son John Daryl Bond. He also leaves behind two granddaughters: Kayla R. (Joshua) Collier and Kellie D. (Jesse) Bankston; three great-grandchildren: Audrey Bankston, and Devon A. and Sebastian B. Collier; and three nephews—Glen (Michile) Hunt, Ben Hunt, and Nelson (Dinette) Hunt—and a host of great-nephews and nieces.
J.D. Bond’s legacy is one of steadfast dedication to family and work, a sharp mind enlivened by humor, and a hands-on approach to life that embodied practicality, precaution, perseverance, and discipline. His passing leaves a profound void, yet his memory endures in the hearts of those who were blessed to know and love him. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Bond family and we ask that you remember them all in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days ahead.
