Jeffery
Shaw
Jan 20, 1947 — Jun 25, 2026
On June 25, 2026, Jeffery Shaw, age 79, drew his last breath on the Crane Creek homestead in which he was both born and raised. He was born January 20,1947 to Lenox and Katie Shaw and was the middle of seven children. Growing up on a dairy farm, Jeffery learned hard work at an early age which became ingrained in him for life.
Jeff held many different jobs, starting with logging paperwood when he was only 15. Eventually settling into lineman work, Jeff was a proud member of the local IBEW #903 for over 55 years. He trained and mentored many, imprinting his knowledge of “Slow and steady wins the race.”, along with “If you start something you need to finish it.” He loved his work and making a living for his family.
He was faithful to his job but after clocking out, Jeffery knew how to play. He spent every minute he could in the woods, just waiting for the moment he would hear his dogs running deer or baying hogs! While he loved hunting both with his many many dogs, his most favorite by far was hog hunting, by which he gained his well-known name, “Hog Hunter”. Jeff also loved cat fishing, mullet chasing, and always looked forward to his trips to the Ripley flea market. In his down time, he could be found under the shade of a pecan tree or hunting arrowheads. He never met a stranger because he knew everyone and loved to go visiting.
You can rest assured when the planting season came, he could always be found in the field on a tractor making sure the corn and potatoes were in the ground. Hoping it wouldn’t thunder in February because we all knew that would mean frost on the corn in April. Jeff loved to run the roads, stopping only to get $5 in gas, red weenies, a loaf of light bread to wrap around them, and a cold barqs in a bottle with peanuts. He always said, “Never come back the same way you went.”, confusing everyone. Also “If you follow the power lines you will never be lost.”, was another favorite line of his.
Jeff was saved and then baptized into Crane Creek Baptist Church on July 15, 1973. He rededicated his life during Heavens Gates and Hells Flames in 2016, which settled his wild life down. He then became the Christian husband and father that God created him to be.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of almost 22 years, Tonya Lyn Shaw. He leaves behind his children, Bryant (Jennifer) Shaw, Jody Shaw, Ray Alston Shaw, Haley (Danny) Havard, Rose Lyn Shaw, seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, his siblings, Betty Farmer, Janice Dedeaux, Dot Shaw, Milton Shaw, various nieces and nephews, and a hand full of lifelong friends including Luther Ladner and Gerald Paige.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lenox Shaw and Katie Shaw Cuevas, siblings, J.D. Shaw, Gloria Wilson, and the mother of his eldest four children, Linda Gail Alston.
A memorial service will be held at Crane Creek Baptist Church 30040 Crane Creek Road Perkinston, Ms on July 2, 2026. Visitation from 9am-10am. Funeral service at 10am, followed by spreading of ashes behind the Shaw homestead at his favorite pond. In lieu of cut flowers, the family welcomes potted indoor/ outdoor plants to create a lasting memorial.
Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Shaw Family and ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers in the days to come.
