Obituary

Janie Marie Schoppe, 59, of Gulfport, passed away on October 5, 2026, at USA Hospital in Mobile, Alabama. Janie was born on January 23, 1967, in Gulfport, Mississippi, to her parents, James Buford and Mary Geneva (Thomas) Bailey.

Janie lived a blessed life filled with love, family, and devotion. She was a kindhearted woman with a big personality and an even bigger heart. Though she was kind and loving, Janie was also a strong woman and one tough cookie who knew how to stand her ground. Janie loved the outdoors. She enjoyed fishing, crabbing, hunting, shooting, and most importantly, the time she and Edward spent living in South Louisiana. Janie also enjoyed karaoke, singing, giving hugs, and simply being around the people she loved.  Which often included her love of cooking and caring for those in need, Janie would gladly feed anyone who came through her door. She had a special love for children, and although she was never able to have any of her own, Janie had a mother's heart and was a "mother" to many.

One of the greatest blessings of Janie's life was the love she shared with her husband, Edward. Their story began when they were just seventeen years old, and for forty-one years they remained by each other's side. Their marriage was a beautiful example of old-fashioned love, loyalty, and devotion. Janie loved her husband deeply and cared for him like no other. Edward was her husband, best friend, soulmate, and the love of her life. Their life together was a beautiful love story that few are fortunate enough to experience.

Janie's life was a beautiful testament to love, strength, and devotion. She spent her years caring for others and loving her family with all her heart. Her kindness was a gift, her spirit was unforgettable, and the love she shared—especially with her husband—will remain a lasting part of her beautiful legacy. She was a fighter until the very end.

Janie was preceded in death by her father, James Torries; her stepmother, June Torries; her "dad", Jim Bailey; and her brother, Richard Bailey. Left to cherish her big and loving hugs, her loving husband and soulmate, Edward Schoppe; her mother, Mary Bailey; two brothers, JD (Shannon) Torries and Jewell (Christine) Torries; one sister, Regina (Bob) Hansen; three step-sisters, Martha (Johnny) Willis, Lori (Lonnie) Scarborough, and Christy Paris; one step-brother, Randy (Roxanne) Davidson; eight grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.

Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Schoppe family in their time of need and asks that you remember them in your thoughts and prayers through the days ahead.
