James Mose
Smith Jr.
Dec 23, 1960 — Jun 22, 2026
James Mose Smith Jr., 65, passed away in Waveland, MS on June 22, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 23, 1960 in Gretna, LA to the late James Mose Smith Sr. and Patsy Bernice Tullos Smith.
James Smith Jr. lived a life full of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to those around him. A true caregiver by nature, James was always looking out for others—family, friends, even strangers—offering support, protection, and a listening ear whenever it was needed. He had a way of making people feel safe, valued, and understood.
Born in New Orleans but raised in Lacombe, James carried the spirit New Orleans with him everywhere he went—full of life, warmth, and a love for good times. At one time, he proudly owned and operated a bar known as The Sassy B, a place where people gathered not just for a drink, but for connection, laughter, and fellowship—something James deeply believed in.
He was known for his incredible sense of humor and his ability to light up any room. James loved to laugh, to joke, and to bring joy to others. He cherished time with his family, always standing up for them, protecting them, and loving them fiercely. His love for children was especially evident, as he had a natural way of connecting with them and bringing smiles to their faces.
James found peace in life’s simple moments—sitting on his porch enjoying a quiet smoke, or heading to the beach where he could clear his mind and feel at ease. He had a deep love for animals, showing compassion and care that reflected the kindness in his heart. For him, animals were another way to share the love he carried so freely.
One of his greatest passions was cooking. James was a gifted cook who found joy in feeding others, bringing people together over meals made with love. Whether it was a family gathering or just a casual day, he believed food was meant to be shared, just like life’s best moments.
He loved to celebrate, to gather, and to make memories with the people he cared about most. James lived life on his own terms—boldly, freely, and without apology. He never let the world define his worth or tell him who he should be. Instead, he chose to live fully, love deeply, and enjoy every day to its fullest.
James Smith Jr. will be remembered as a loving man, a protector, a provider of comfort, and a source of joy to many. His presence was a gift, his laughter unforgettable, and his love everlasting. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and a life well lived.
