James Allen Moffett

James Allen Moffett, affectionately known as Allen to his friends, Butterbean to his military family, and "Possum" to his hunting buddies, departed this world on October 26, 2024, at the age of 61, at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, MS, surrounded by ALL OF THOSE HE LOVED.  Allen's life was a testament to the bonds of family and friendship, as well as the joys of simple pleasures. He shared a devoted marriage of 38 years with his loving wife, Anita Davis Moffett, and together, they raised a family that included their only son, Kenneth (Brittany) Moffett of McComb, and four daughters, Niki (Mike) Cooley of Brooklyn, Neelie (Ricky) Maxwell of Maxie, Lexie Moffett, and Mollie Moffett both of Maxie. Allen was the proud "Pop" to his grandchildren, McKade, Hunter, Fisher, Claire, and one honorary grand-daughter, Kinsle Lezama, who brought him immeasurable amounts of happiness every single day. He was a brother to Richard (Brenda) Moffett of Carnes, Joseph (Cindy) Moffett of Brooklyn, and Jerry (Lorrie) Gibson of Wiggins. "Possum" shared a special bond with his closest friend, Paul (Renee) Cook of Maxie, MS.  Welcoming him with open arms are his parents, whom he missed so dearly, James "Bunk" and Bobbie Jo Moffett; his Maternal grandparents, Gip and Doris Gibson; paternal grandparents, Nevels and Cornelia Moffett; as well as his cousin, who was more like a sister, Tammy Cagle; and one niece, Savannah Gibson.  Allen's educational journey reflected his dedication and strong work ethic. Growing up in Forrest County, Allen was a proud graduate and supporter of his Alma Mater, Forrest County Agricultural High School, Class of 1981, and as always, GO AGGIES!! After high school, Allen went on to earn a degree in Brick Masonry from Pearl River Community College in 1983. His professional life was marked by his service to both country and community. He retired, honorably, after 28 years of proudly serving his country, in the Mississippi Army National Guard. A busy body, Allen enjoyed retired life by going back to work at Camp Shelby Recycle Center for 15 years, where he was promoted and respected as Supervisor for the last 5 years. For fun and to fill his spare time, Allen was an honorary cashier at The Corner Fuel Store.  Beyond his work and service, Allen was a man of many interests which included being an avid outdoorsman. In his free time, Allen could often be found, hauling junk or elbow deep at Parker's Scrap Metal digging and fueling his "hobby" or as his family says, supporting their shopping and crab legs obsession.  Allen's legacy is not only found in his good works but in the love and laughter he shared with all who knew him. His jovial spirit, the twinkle in his eye, and his hearty laugh will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him. Allen's willingness to help his fellow man if able, and a faith that he shared with all he met, will linger in the hearts and minds of those who crossed his path, daily. Even at his worst, Allen still found a way to give and touch lives by being an organ donor and continuing to share his legacy, giving another life the opportunity to stand strong. Allen was a true man of integrity, humor, and immense heart, his impact on his community and the lives he touched will resonate for years to come.  As we bid farewell to James Allen Moffett, we celebrate a life lived with purpose, love, and a whole lot of mischief. Allen was a beloved husband, father, Pop, brother, and true friend. His memory will be cherished and kept alive through the stories shared and passed down through generations to come and the countless lives he enriched by simply just being everybody's, Allen, ButterBean, and Possum. Though he has left us in body, his spirit remains a guiding light to all who had the privilege of knowing our Pop. Services for Allen Moffett will be held at Trinity Funeral Services in Lumberton, MS, on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, beginning at 5:00 pm for a Visitation. On Thursday, October 31, 2024, a short Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, followed by a Funeral Service at 12:00 Noon. Allen will be interred at Simmons Family Cemetery where he will receive full Military Honors as a beloved Veteran, directly following the service.
