Pass Christian

James Michael Kuhn, age 83 years, 11 months, and 28 days, known to all who loved him as Jim, passed away on June 5, 2020 at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport, MS. He was born to Michael and Julia (Mozie) Kuhn on June 8, 1936 in Ohio. His brother, Joseph Kuhn, came along two years later. While his death was sudden, it was not unexpected…after all, there is only so much adventure, spirit and love that a single human heart can contain and Jim’s heart was so full that it was literally stretching at the seams. He was a good man, a very good man. He never met a stranger or had a cross word to say. Jim’s face always had a smile that lit up the room and a laugh that was contagious. He always, always had a story to tell and was ready for any adventure. He served his country as a Chief Petty Officer in the Seabee’s for over 20 years, then brought that “Can Do” spirit back with him to the civilian workplace, working for Roy Anderson Corporation as a master carpenter, even building cabinets in some of our very first casinos. While serving 3 tours in Vietnam, Jim received the Navy Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. He retired again, after many years, so that he could spend more time to help his friends, neighbors, and anyone else that needed a hand. Jim could literally build anything with nothing more than a pile of scrap wood, a few pieces of steel, his trusty hammer, his welding machine, and the sheer will to do so.  The one thing that he built, that he was most proud of though, wasn’t a barn or a bench, but his loving family. Jim married Roseanne and together raised two sons, Mike and Doug. Mike gave Jim his daughter-in-law, Tina and two grandkids, Amber (Bryan) Conner and Tyler (Sharonda) Kuhn and a great grandson from Amber, Cayden Conner. Doug gave him a granddaughter, Anne Spiers and a great granddaughter, Lexie Spiers. The adventure in his heart could not be contained and that was proven once again, by a simple trip to the mailbox.  Jim met Patricia Eldridge and fell instantly and overwhelmingly in love with her. In 1992, the two started their life together, and just like he built rooms on his home, he built his family even larger. Jim gained three daughters and three sons-in-laws with his union to Ms. Pat. Stacy Fox; Bardo Fox; Terry and Lyn Lepre; Tammy and John Barnes. Stacy and Bardo gave him a granddaughter, Samantha. Terry and Lyn gave him a granddaughter and grandson -in-law, Mindy and Nathan Wideman. Tammy and John gave him two grandsons, Jacob and Nicholas. Jim loved his family more than anything. The only thing that ever came close was his love for his furry babies Fred, Shaggy, Pooky, and Shiloh. Shiloh, being the good dog that he was, went to heaven first so he could be there waiting for Jim when he came home. While Jim has gone on before us, he has left us with a heck of a lot of great memories. How fortunate we all were to have someone that makes saying good-bye so hard.  Of course, this isn’t goodbye, but rather, until we meet again.  In accordance with Jim’s final wishes, he will be laid to rest at the Biloxi National Cemetery at a private ceremony on Monday, June 15, 2020. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to be entrusted with the care of Jim and ask that you keep his family in your prayers during this difficult time.
