James Terry "Kink" Martin

March 9, 1953 — February 5, 2022

Lumberton, MS

James Terry Martin, better known as "Kink", broke the bonds of this world and took his heavenly flight on February 5, 2022. He was born March 9, 1953, the second of eight children of John and Bessie Dee Martin. Kink grew up in Lumberton, MS where he went to school until he got old enough to work. He worked at gas stations, dairy farms, even for a traveling roller skating rink, until he got old enough to work in the oil field. He made many long-lasting friendships in the oil fields and on the offshore oil rigs. He received his life's calling when he went to work for Cuevas Fish House. He was so well known for frying fish that people would call ahead to make sure he was cooking. Kink always had something going in the kitchen to keep the night from seeming so long. He could really give those waitress's fits. Customers would say, 'Tell Kink I'm here, he knows how I want mine cooked. He loved people and loved getting folks together. Sunday fish fries with a softball game was one of his favorite get-togethers. Sometimes there would be twenty people on each side - adults, and young-uns. Rules were made up as we went along. One rule was that a husband and wife couldn't be on the same team, but they could sit together and eat after the game. If they were still talking to each other. It always seemed that he didn't want anyone to leave. He kept things lively. Football pools, late-night "card games", and Super Bowl Games were just a few of his favorite things. He loved movies and music. He cried every time he watched "The Wizard of Oz" or "Old Yeller". He is the first one to coin the phrase, "I'm a Martin, we cry over everything, even heartburn commercials." Anyone could name a song and he would know what year it came out. He was also well known for "borrowing" some gas, but we will let the gas "lenders" enjoy those tales. His favorite color was "urng" he never said orange, it was always "urng". The thing that most of his nieces and nephews will remember him for was the nicknames he would give them. Terry Martin marched to the beat of his own drum and did things his own way. He was an original. He will be remembered by everyone that met him as a friendly, fun-loving guy who could cook the heck out of some catfish. Kink was preceded in death by his father John V, Martin, his mother Bessie Dee French Martin, one son Jamie Martin, the mother of his children Brenda Faye Amacker Martin, one daughter Tiffany Martin Runnels, one sister Linda Walters and her husband Donald Ray Walters. He is survived by two sons, Derrick (Lindsey) Martin, and Bobby Joe Israel, three sisters, Sherry (Mike) Gipson, Becky Kelly, Mary (Tommy) Jones, three brothers, Jerry Martin, Brandon (Charlotte) Martin, Kerry (Kirri) Martin. Grandchildren, Great-grandchildren, many nephews, and nieces along with numerous extended family and friends all over the country. Nothing would be more of a tribute to "Kink" than for everyone to have and share the memories and happy times that he was a part of. He would love to see that he left us all laughing. Rest in peace Kink. Until we meet again. Services are set for Thursday, February 10th at Little Black Creek Baptist Church. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 3:00 PM. Afterward, Kink will be laid to rest in the church cemetery.
