James Ray Saucier, affectionately known as "J.R." to his friends and family, passed away December 17th, 2024, at the age of 62, in Poplarville, MS. He was born on February 21, 1962 in Poplarville, the son of Edward Eugene and Jean Marie (Parker) Saucier and grew up in the area. James Ray was a man whose presence was as steadfast as the Mississippi pines he so loved. J.R. was a beacon of resilience and warmth, with a smile that could light up the darkest of rooms. James Ray was a member of Steep Hollow Baptist Church and his passing was a tragedy felt by all who knew him, leaving a legacy of love and wisdom that will be cherished forever. J.R. completed an apprenticeship program through Ingalls Shipbuilding, where he dedicated over 40 years of his life as a ship designer. His commitment to his craft was matched only by his dedication to his colleagues, many of whom became lifelong friends. J.R.'s work was not just a job but a passion, and the vessels he helped create will traverse the waters for years to come, as a testament to his skill and attention to detail. When he wasn't working, J.R. was an avid outdoorsman who found solace and joy in nature. He was happiest when hunting, fishing, running dogs, or tending to his garden. His hands, always ready to fix what was broken or cultivate what was needed, were a testament to his handy nature. J.R. was also a gifted teacher, eagerly passing on his knowledge of the outdoors to his grandchildren, extended family, and friends. He was a member of Steep Hollow Masonic Lodge #639 where he was a master mason. J.R. will be forever missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded by his beloved parents, Marie and Edward; his brother, Larry Edward Saucier; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Helen and Dud Ladner; his brother, Robert Saucier, and his son-in-law, August Wetzler. Left to forever cherish his memories are: his son, Wesley Saucier (Celeste Moore), and his daughter, Victoria Wetzler (Chris Giddens); the mother of his two children, Carol Miller Saucier; two sisters, Donnie (Wordie) Carroll and Cathy (Andy) Peterson; one brother, Paul (Sue) Saucier; and his sister in law, Judy Saucier. J.R.'s legacy continues through his eight adored grandchildren: Grayson Wetzler, Parker Saucier, Carter Saucier, Liam Saucier, Oliver Saucier, Evan Saucier, Griffin Giddens, and Summer Saucier, as well as numerous cherished nieces, nephews, extended family and countless friends. His love for his family knew no bounds, and he was the cornerstone upon which they built their lives. His children and grandchildren, in particular, will remember him as a guiding light, a source of strength, and an endless reservoir of love.
The family would like to express our thoughts and prayers with Pearl River County Courthouse employees and witnesses to this tragic event. We know this will leave a lasting impact on your lives as well.
