James Edward “Eddie” Hyatt, 75, of Picayune, MS, passed away on November 7, 2025, at Bedford Care Center of Picayune, in Picayune, Mississippi. Eddie was born on December 4, 1949, in Gulfport, MS, to Annie Valerie (Mills) Patterson and G.W. Hyatt, and was lovingly raised by his stepfather, Johnny Patterson.
To know Eddie was to love him. His presence, music, and warmth will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A talented musician with a natural gift for playing by ear, Eddie was best known for his guitar but could coax music from nearly any instrument he touched. His voice, humor, and gentle spirit made him a joy to be around. Magnetic, witty, and endlessly charming, he had a way of brightening every room he entered. Eddie truly could “charm the birds out of the trees,” and he quickly became one of the most beloved residents at Bedford Care Center—where staff and friends alike adored him.
Eddie is survived by his daughters, Carrie (Hyatt) Dossett and Jennifer (Hyatt) Landry; his siblings Patricia “Pat” (Patterson) Garrett, Annette (Patterson) Kahl, Sheila (Hyatt) McCraney, Alan Hyatt, and Shirley (Hyatt) Knight; his grandchildren Lauren (Stanford) Hunt, Taylor Stanford, Will Dossett, Anna Dossett, and Molly Dossett; and his great-grandchildren Hayes Hunt, Harris Hunt, Ella Pearl Hunt, and Lena Lee Bradley. He was preceded in death by his brother Norris Patterson.
A graveside service will be held on December 6, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Sycamore Baptist Church in Picayune, Mississippi.
Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Hyatt family during this time, and we ask that you remember them all in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days.
