James William Gill, Jr., 69, passed away on August 28, 2022 at at Memorial Hospital at Stone County in Wiggins. He was born on November 07, 1952 in Hattiesburg, MS, one of two children born to the late James William Gill, Sr. and Earline (McKee) Counts. He grew up in the Hattiesburg area and has enjoyed fishing and muscle cars his entire life. Known by most as Jimmy, he also came to enjoy cooking, learning a lot as he was growing up. He attended Hattiesburg schools before deciding to go to work, and worked a few jobs along the way. Jimmy has been offshore, drove trucks, and did quite a bit of cooking as well. When his mother opened Counts Restaurant in Wiggins, Jimmy went to work there and ran the kitchen for many years. If you ever ate at Count's, chances are Jimmy cooked for you. After the restaurant was sold, the new owner wanted to change some of the menu, so Jimmy went back to the road, finishing his career driving trucks. He is fondly remembered as a truly good hearted guy that loved his family. His love was usually tough in nature, with most everything being a "life lesson" of some sort, but it was certainly genuine. He had a great sense of humor and loved to pull pranks, such as throwing ice on you while you showered. In his spare time, Jimmy loved his classic rock music, playing video games, and of course, his two daily trips to Ward's for something to eat. A sausage biscuit in the morning, followed by two chili dogs for lunch was usually his routine. His antics and love for his family and friends will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded by his father, James Gill, Sr., his brother, Mike, and the love of his life and former wife, Becky Gill. Left to cherish his memories are: his children: one daughter, Jamie (Jerod) Bowman of Wiggins, with sons Joey Gill of Petal and Ashton Gill, also of Wiggins; his loving mother, Earline Counts of Lumberton; his brothers: Richard (Stephanie) Stringer of Wiggins, Billy (Tammy) Denson of TN, with Larry, Doug, and Ricky Gill, all of MO, with his only sister, Theresa (Larry) Burge of Lumberton. Jimmy leaves a legacy of five grandchildren: Kanin and Ayden Gill, Georgia (Ricky) Hall, Tommie Carlisle; four great-grands: Arora, Braxton, Hadley, and Brooklyn, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. His final wishes were to be cremated without any fanfare, which his family is honoring. In lieu of any floral arrangements, donations to help the family offset final expenses will be accepted, and can be made through the tab above, or sent in directly to Trinity Funeral Services. Trinity is honored to once again serve the Gill family in their time of need and asks that you remember them in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days.
